Wish I could give you some suggestions but we are in the same boat as you, still trying to get our feeding program figured out. Would love to get some others opinions on this. What is everyone else feeding? We have tried mixing high quality horse feed with grower and it seems to work well but don't know if it is the best.

i know we feed our cows and bulls reg 20% protein cubes and have a mineral tub out for them. then just get some feed lot grower and high protein horse feed and mixin it together, you might also get some mineral- max from the vet its a good source of minerals and you only have to give 1 cc per two hundred pounds of body weight.you can use it on day old calfs too. i do know that in the last trimester you want to be careful og how much protein you feed the mama cow b/c most of it goes straight to the calf and it can cause calving problems. i would not worry about the furry coat b/c thats typically normal in some cattle. Gods way of protecting his creation, he should slick off pretty soon. hope this helps.

Not less than unless otherwise stated...
Crude Protien 12% Crude Fat 2.25% Crude Fiber - not more than 20% Calcium .75% not more tha 1.50% Phosphorus .5% Salt .75% yo 1.25% Potassium .6% Vitamin A 2,500 IU/lb

do you keep a molossas mineral tub out for them, they will only lick on it when they need it. a 125# tub is only around 30 to 40 bucks and will last a while with a small # of head. if you see them in it constantly, then you know they are mineral deficent. kinda like a black cow that has a brown tint to them, its a sign that they are lacking essential minerals. we keep a salt or sulphur block out also. i would still feed them some range cubes that are 20 % protein, you can get them at the feed store or tractor supply, they run around $6 for a 50# bag, and if you get a chance run over to bryan, tx and check out producers coop, they make alot of different feed and have a lot of choices availiable. i can get there # for you but they are located right off of hwy21 & 6. i am just one breeder and have my own way of feeding, there are all kinds of ways that work, but i learned after talking to many people that raise cattle for a living, everyone has there own way of doing it, in other words try some different things out and see what works the best. feel free to call me anytime if i can help out.

The thing about cubes is that they Poop more of it out cause they dont digest as much of it, Pellets or a crushed feed is better for the livestock that way it digest better. instead of a mineral tub we use the two bulls tubs, they are a little more but they work alot better. Both the Two Bulls and Warzone are great supplements also.

justin like i said everyone has an opinion on how to do it, go read the same post on the other board, they all valid ways of doing feeding just different. we have more mamas actually we all we have are mamas. we dont have any bulls only a yearling bull and 2 bull calves right now, with the bulls i agree, i would give them something designed for the bucking bulls, but you can feed some higher protien feed maybe like i said some high dollar horse feed mixed with some feedlot grower or bull conditioner, to stretch it out if your on a budget. we are guilty of spoiling our cows, heck they are all big and filled out, probably too big and fat , but i like em healthy never had any calving problems or too many other problems with them to come to thank of it, other than a big feed bill. ;D
